My 7 year-old decided to start a coin collection this summer.
He’s starting out with the quarters from all the 50 states and the U.S. territories. On his own initiative, he found a piece of cardboard on which to mount the coins. After being asked to spell Alabama, Idaho, and Massachusetts - I printed out a list of the U.S. States so that he could just cut and paste the labels.
I know you can buy professionally-made cardboard holders for these coin sets, but knowing my son made this one on his own is much more impressive. It’s math, language arts, social studies, and arts and crafts all at once.
That’s a summer activity worth its weight in …quarters!
