My oldest son has discovered Monopoly. He’s completely mesmerized by the game and often can quote most of the rental fees without even looking at the property card. Who knew that real estate and capitalism had such draw for a second grader?
Although I tend to shy away from Monopoly (when possible), our family has started the tradition of a weekly game night. We’ve had such fun and my five year old’s math skills have sure improved. That boy can roll the die and add the numbers quicker than you can say, “Sorry!” (Hasbro's 'Sorry' happens to be his favorite game of the moment. Tee hee!)
My best advice for game night fun: hit the second hand stores. I’ve found most our board games at the local Once Upon a Child or St. Vincent de Paul thrift store. $2.00 is a great price to try out some new family fun.
