Tonight is the lighting of the Christmas Tree at the Oregon State Capitol. While this event hosts the best Santa Claus in town – there’s still three good reasons to visit the Capitol building later this holiday season.
1) Check here for the schedule of free music performances. Bring a lunch, take a seat on the marble stairs and enjoy the holiday rhythms.
2) The decoration inside the rotunda are festive, varied, and (even better) in a wonderfully warm and dry location to explore with wee ones. Some years they give away pencils or candy canes away if you stop by the Governor’s office. Visit the 2nd floor/south side for more info.
3) Each year, under the massive holiday fir, is an electric train that travels through the miniature city of Salem. Let your kids line-up to push the button, again and again and again.
