by Beverly Cleary.
We can’t eat a hardboiled egg around our house without someone cracking it over their head. Ramona’s brutal honesty about the world through first-grade-eyes has completely captured our hearts. If there was any doubt, Stockard Channing’s reading of the books on audio certainly sealed the deal. These stories are classics for the elementary set.
In Ramona’s honor, my boys and I took a detour
during a recent trip to Portland to visit Klickitat Street.
Just a few blocks south is Grant Park, and there we
found all sorts of Quimby sized fun.
older homes. The park has a track, tennis courts,
a playground, and a water feature. This summer it is also
home to the Portland Playground Program
which offers organized games and crafts. We traveled
there on a Tuesday and found the park abuzz
with Mommies, and Daddies, and children.
Here’s just a few pics from our Beverly Cleary inspired outing. It’s a must see for local readers.
