Earlier this year, my family visited Oaks Amusement Park in Portland. We skipped the fairway and headed straight into the Oaks Skating Rink. I was unsure how my four year old would do and predicted a stay of only 30 minutes - but it was a full two hours before I finally could drag him from the floor. What great fun – for the whole family!
Here are a few details that make the rink so great:
1) Skates for children have adjustable wheels so as to give the skates less rolling power and the kids more control. Ask at the skate counter.
2) The far side of the rink offers a kiddie-lane with handrails (for little ones as they learn to maneuver) and an open practice area (for kids and adults who need a bit of practice before hitting the main floor).
3) The far back of the rink offers a special area that gently slopes both up and then down. The rolling hills provide a giggle-producing ride every time!
4) Don’t miss the games played throughout the day – hokey pokey, dice, couple skate, etc… My six year old won a free soda at the snack bar and was absolutely thrilled!!!
A great spot for families – splurge and enjoy this genuine family treat!
