My boys took swim lesson at the Kroc Center this past month. With the hundreds of lakes and rivers in Oregon, my kiddos will be getting yearly lessons (for sure) until they’ve mastered the standard strokes. Over the last seven years, we’ve taken lessons at a variety of pools in town.
Here are the upsides to lessons at the Kroc Center:
Here are the upsides to lessons at the Kroc Center:
1) Family Changing Rooms
My oldest boy is too old to go into the women’s locker room with me, but way too young to be on his own in the men’s locker room. More than a dozen individual changing rooms save me from this dilemma. The rooms are spacious and offer a bench, shower, sink, toilet, and privacy.

2) Beach Entry
The Kroc recreation pool slowly becomes deeper and deeper as you enter. This allows the preschool swim class to choose between deep water (for jumping and gliding) and shallow water (for game playing). My preschooler likes the variety of activities this set-up allows during the 30 minute lesson.

3) Staff Uniforms
All Kroc pool employees wear matching red swim shirts. This may seem trivial, but I appreciate the ability to scan the pool and quickly identify who’s in charge and on-the-job.

4) Water Extractor
Next to Changing Room #2 – you can find the 'automatic water extractor'. Although this handy little machine sounds a bit odd on the first use, it’s actually remarkably helpful in removing the bulk of the water from your swimsuit. Free for anyone wanting to carry home semi-dry items – just read the directions on the wall behind the machine and dry away!
